After seeing a few of the commercials for TheLadders.com I decided to hop on the website and check it out. TheLadders.com describes itself as:
TheLadders.com offers online job search resources and content for the $100k+ job seekers and recruiters. Our specialized job search engines are an invaluable asset to top-earning job seekers in Sales, Marketing, Finance, Human Resources, Law, Technology, Operations, and all other $100k+ fields.
So I went through a brief sign up process, giving my basic demographic information, my 2007 Earnings (true or not…), the Field I work in and my Subscription choice (Free, $30, $120 and $180). I browsed the site for about 5 minutes after signing up, seeing what options they had for customizing my profile, viewing jobs available in Jacksonville, looking to see if any Recruiters I have dealt with are on the site and then their newest addition Resume services.
All in, the site isn’t going to win any design awards, but it functions well on the surface and was helpful where I needed tips.
Once I left, the website showed its true colors. I signed up about a week and a half ago, let’s say it was 10 days ago. I have received 9* e-mails since signing up. 9* e-mails! Here is a list of the subject lines:
- Welcome to the Club!
- Hired!
- The Most Exciting Super Bowl of My Lifetime
- Search 809 New $100k+ Jobs This Week!
- [MktgLadder] The Punchline (this was a freakin’ comic - dilbert style)
- Deliver a Presentation Like Steve Jobs
- Search 1,121 New $100k+ Jobs This Week!
- Give Us Your Feedback!
- *updated from 2/20: Try MktgLadder Premium for 2 weeks!
I didn’t ask for any of these e-mails to be sent, but most importantly I didn’t even have a chance to say “No Thanks to Promotional E-mails” when I signed up. It’s great that I can “unsubscribe” at the bottom of any e-mail they send, but if there weren’t CAN-SPAM rules and regulations I am sure they wouldn’t even offer that! Feel free to send me an e-mail if I haven’t been active on the site for a few weeks, but not a few days.
Check out TheLadders.com if you want more spam that somehow gets by your Junk filter or if you want to find that $100k job you’ve been looking for…
