Giving Facebook Apps A Go
I know I know, it seems like a bandwagon move but I’ll be pretty honest in saying that even after all the hype, I still find the platform to be pretty compelling and worth taking a chance on.
So to give you some history, I have had this idea for an app that involved collegiate sports and their fans for a long time now. It was supposed to be a standalone site similar to Only Human in form, but everything changed when the F8 Keynote was given.
One of the hardest things for a startup to do is build your own community from scratch – in comes Facebook. They have essentially provided you with an established user-base of millions to build off of. Not only is it millions of users, but its also millions of college students so it really made me rethink my approach. Its the perfect audience for my idea and I’d be an idiot to not use this opportunity to reduce one of the major barriers to entry.
So after sketching out the entire app and going over everything, we realized one thing. We’re going to need a little help.
So we did some research and decided to apply for the AppFactory program at Bay Partners and fbFund at Facebook. While AppFactory provides an investment opportunity more akin to angel investing, fbFund is more of a grant. We officially submitted our application on Wednesday so we’ll keep you guys posted on the progress.
Stay tuned because Sandro and I will be writing some articles about the Facebook Platform including how to design for for it, tips on development, common mistakes and other helpful tips.
